The multi tasking myth, how it is killing productivity and innovation.
A quiet but focused revolution is taking place, a single change that is enabling innovation to grow, and complex problems to be solved. While corporations seek to do more with less, the rise of the multi tasker is depleting our ability to deal with complex issues . Connectivity which was supposed to liberate us has actually meant that for many they have reached their cognitive load capacity and this is impacting decisions small and large and our ability to solve complex problems. The human brain is not capable of multi tasking instead micro tasking which is both tiring and limiting for thinking . Lynn’s talk at Wired for Wonder in 2014 and more recently with a number of Australia’s top corporates has started a focused revolution to stop multi tasking and focus on just one thing at a time with some amazing results.
