Chip is Commonwealth Bank’s friendly humanoid social robot. At 1.7 metres tall and weighing close to 100 kilograms, Chip has a sophisticated mix of cameras, lasers, ultrasounds, microphones and speakers which allow it to recognise faces, converse with people and answer questions, and grasp and move objects around independently.
Chip currently spends most of its time at Commonwealth Bank’s Innovation Lab greeting people, making jokes and giving hugs. Chip works closely with Commonwealth Bank, Stockland and UTS staff on enhancing human-robot interactions. When it’s not busy working on being more socially intuitive, Chip strolls around contemplating its own lack of consciousness, talking to humans about what it means to feel something, and sitting back and recharging.
